Head foreman, Liam Mullen, takes charge of our flagship Mellon Educate project this week for Oranjekloof Moravian primary school in Imizamo Yethu, Cape Town. IY is where we completed the first Niall Mellon Township Trust building blitz, so holds a special place in our hearts, as it does his. Liam reluctantly downed tools just long enough to tell of his inspiration for the week ahead, and beyond.
“I landed in Cape Town on Thursday morning, and went straight to site. I have a strong emotional attachment to the school as I got to know the principal of the school on our first building blitz in Imizamo Yethu back in 2003. Our relationship developed and I, along with a few other volunteers, helped out some children from the township get through school and ultimately finish their education. Happily one of them Zola (20) hopes to graduate as a lawyer next year.
So for me as head foreman to complete this work is a lot more than a build to complete, it’s a mission to ensure that these children are left with a brighter, better place in which to study and build a better future.”
