Volunteer Competition
Sponsored by
In November this year one lucky student will win the chance to work on a project in South Africa as part of their qualification. The initiative is being run by Mellon Educate, a charity that has been operating in impoverished African communities since 2002.
The concept is groundbreaking in that an entire school is built in just five days by an army of volunteers under the direction of skilled tradespeople. The winning student will be able to expand their knowledge base by working across multiple trades and witnessing first-hand the logistics involved in running a large scale initiative on tight deadlines.
The place, sponsored by Sir Robert McAlpine will be awarded to one student from West Herts College’s School of Engineering who will be flown out to Cape Town on 5th November this year for one week. The successful candidate will be seen as an ambassador for and will also gain exposure to the and be offered the chance of further interface with them upon their return.
All flights, accommodation and meals will be covered. If you are interested in attending please fill out the form below and you will be emailed by the College shortly regarding the application process.
*Please note this competition is open to West Herts College students on a full-time course from the school of Engineering*
